Content

The excursion is a 3-day event focused on karst hydrology and Vienna's water supply system. Besides visiting various water reservoirs and the Hydrographic Service of Lower Austria, the excursion leads to the spring protection areas of Vienna's First and Second Mountain Spring Water Pipelines. Here we will visit various springs that are interesting from a karst hydrological perspective. The detailed program will be announced during the mandatory preliminary meeting.

The excursion takes place in the summer semester 2025 from May 8-10, 2025. There will be a participation fee for the excursion, the amount of which will be announced later. This fee will be collected during the mandatory preliminary meeting.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to comprehensively understand and reflect on complex yet practical topics and administrative processes in hydrology and water management, spring protection measures and infrastructure related to water supply, measurements of the hydrological cycle, as well as (karst) hydrological processes in a practical and holistic manner. The excursion integrates theoretical aspects taught in various courses on hydrology and water management and demonstrates their practical relevance.
