The course provides a comprehensive introduction to R and RStudio, followed by a practical application of this knowledge in the field of hydrological modeling. Students learn advanced R programming techniques, including data visualization and the development of complex functions. The focus is on applying the hydrological model GR4J to a selected catchment from the LamaH Dataset. Concepts of time series analysis, interpolation techniques, and parameter estimation for rainfall-runoff models are covered. Students develop skills to integrate R programming and hydrological modeling to independently implement and optimize models, and effectively analyze and visualize results.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
After successful completion of the course, students will have developed the following skills:
- Hydrological Modeling Expertise: Graduates will be skilled in conducting hydrological modeling, including time series representation, interpolation techniques, model setup, and providing essential input parameters for model execution.
- Proficiency in Rainfall-Runoff Modeling: Graduates will be competent in performing rainfall-runoff modeling, including understanding and applying methods for parameter estimation.
- R Programming Competence: Graduates will demonstrate proficiency in the R programming language, including coding, creating data visualizations, developing and using complex functions, and incorporating external packages for enhanced functionality.
- Integrated Knowledge Application: Graduates will effectively combine their expertise in hydrological modeling and R programming, using advanced programming skills to implement and optimize hydrological models, perform in-depth data analyses, and visually present results.
