Labour is a central term in a serious debate on agriculture. It impliments a social component that will help to understand historical developments of rural economies and agriculture, and their implications on gender relations.
The lecture will give a historical overview on the development of labour conditions in rural areas, and will discuss workers' resistance within concrete examples of organizing.
The students should be able to develop an understanding of rural economy from the
perspective of those working.

Students will learn to analyse labour in rural areas, focussing on the agricultural sector, within a historical and economical approach.
A critical analysis of labour cannot go without reflexions on gender relations.
The lecture aims both at teaching concrete contents and at practicing scientific methods in research and writing.
It is open to all students.
