Natural hazards have always determined people's lives, especially in the Alps. Through a careful choice of settlement locations and a variety of adaptation measures, people have learned to live with natural hazards over the centuries and at the same time have been repeatedly affected by their destructive power. The targeted management of torrents and avalanches began in Austria as early as 1884 and since then the Alpine republic has been one of the countries in the world with the most comprehensive natural hazard management. A variety of protective measures made it possible to develop settlement areas that were historically inaccessible. Large areas of alluvial fans and lowlands were built on, relying on protective measures.
The connection between the implementation of protective measures and settlement development in previously potentially endangered areas is generally assumed to be evident. However, there are few studies on this. The in-depth event is intended to trace precisely this historical development and, on the one hand, to record the implementation of protective measures and their effects and, on the other hand, settlement development and land use. It will therefore be the task to create a land use model.
The focus project is designed as an in-depth look at the Ordnungsplanerisches Projekt (No. 854318). Completion together is recommended. In principle, it is possible to book the LVA independently, but requires coordination with the LVA management.
