Content

In the course an overview of main theories and approaches of regional and rural development concepts are presented. A particular focus is placed on the inter-linkages of farm household activities with the rural economy. These contents are complemented by implementation examples of relevant Austrian policy programmes and references tot eh international discourse on rural development policy.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The course has the task to provide an introduction to basic concepts and theories of regional development, with a focus on the inter-linkages of agricultural activities to the regional economy and society. In addition the examples of actual policy application of rural and regional programmes should enable students to discuss different approaches and strategies of rural programmes.
