Previous knowledge expected

Basic skills in fish ecology recommended (812.344 Ecology of fishes)

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After sucessful completion of this course, participants are able to:
Use taxonomical keys comprehensivley;
Identify selected benthic invertrebrate groups to species level in larval and/or adult stages;
Understand morphological and behavioural adaptions of benthic invertebrates in an environmental context;
Evaluate the role of species, genera and families of selected groups in ecosystem functioning;
Classify taxa regarding habitat preferences, functional feeding type and zoogeographical regions;
Use these taxa as bioindicators according assessment programs like the WFD;
Detect diefferent bentic invertebrate stages (larvae and adults) in the field;
Contribute to biodiversity issues
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
