Lehrinhalt

- Lecture on morphological and behavioural adaptions of Ephemeroptera (Mayflies) in an environmental context
- Practical exercise on identification and classification on both larvae and partly adults (laboratory)
- Field trip (Lafnitz river) and practical exercise in habitat preferences of larval and adult stages
- Discussing biodiversity issues

Lehrziel

After sucessful completion of this course, participants are able to:
- Use taxonomical keys comprehensivley;
- Identify Ephemeroptera to species level in larval stages and partly in adults;
- Understand morphological and behavioural adaptions of Ephemeroptera in an environmental context;
- Evaluate the role of species, genera and families in ecosystem functioning;
- Classify taxa regarding habitat preferences, functional feeding type and zoogeographical regions;
- Use these taxa as bioindicators according assessment programs like the WFD;
- Detect different bentic invertebrate stages (larvae and adults) in the field;
- Contribute to biodiversity issues
