Content

In the framework of this course theories and concepts of rock mechanics will be presented and elaborated by means of examples concerning slope stability, in-situ stress, intact rock and rock mass deformation and failure, as well as analysis of laboratory and field tests.
•Intact rock and rock mass
•Force and stress (fundamentals)
•Displacement and strain
•In-situ stress (primary and secondary stress)
•Measurement of In-situ stress
•Groundwater flow and pore pressure distribution in fractured rock masses
•Intact rock and rock mass deformability
•Rock and rock mass strength, failure criteria’s
•Laboratory and In-situ testing of intact rock and rock masses
•Geological discontinuities
•Rock mass characterization and classification
•Selected case studies
