The course focuses on innovation research in context of the bioeconomy and presents examples of current research in the forest-based sector. It extends current discourses by systemic perspectives to adequately consider technological innovations in light of environmental, economic and social framework conditions.

• Students are familiarized with various definitions of the term innovation and settings of innovation processes and reflect in particular on the concept of sustainable innovation in the light of social challenges.
• Students learn about current discourses as a research context and as a framework for innovation processes.
• Students get insights into current research on the integration of sustainability assessment into innovation processes and conduct an approach.
• Students acquire the competence to reflect on problems in the forest-based bioeconomy and to identify research gaps.
• Students will hone their ability to engage in substantiated academic discussion based on scientific sources, structure their arguments and formulate research questions on innovation processes in the forest-based bioeconomy.
