Biological basis of tree ring formation, principles of dendrochronology (crossdating, uniformitarian principle, principle of site selection, principle of replication), statistics, applications of tree ring studies: dendroclimatology (climate-growth, climate reconstruction), dendroecology (tree rings and environmental factors), dendroarchaeology (dating historical constructions and wood). This lecture offers also hands-on experience including skeletton technique, use of computer software for time-series statistics, climate-growth correlations. Examples from own research are presented and discussed.

This lecture is an introduction to tree ring analysis in its full interdisciplinarity. Basic knowledge, practical applications as well as limitations of tree-ring studies are discussed in detail.
