Content

The aim of the course is to promote an understanding of what makes a ‘good’ presentation, and translate this understanding into the individual presentations to be held by the participants, e.g. at the ELLS Scientific Student Conference or the CAS-Semester-Touchdown. We will critically reflect on why certain practices may be helpful or distracting during presentations, as well as understanding the need to find one’s personal style.

Students will learn how to present their ideas in an accessible and convincing way. Such skills are useful not only to present the results of scientific research, but also in professional practice or job applications.

The participants will benefit from intensive interactions with other participants and with lecturers, as well from the rapid feedback tailored to their presentation. Grading will be based on the active participation in the course, as well as on the quality of the feedback you provide to others. You can find additional information in the Syllabus.

Please note that in the Winter Term 2023/24 the focus will be on a poster presentation and the 3-minute oral presentation of the poster

Previous knowledge expected

You should know how to work with MS PowerPoint (or similar presentation software). A basic understanding of communication principles is helpful.
