Content

The lecture covers a basic and advanced range of perennials and summer flowers for planting in public and private gardens. The individual plants are presented in the lecture hall and during field trips to gardens and parks, and are interactively cultivated using artistic and creative as well as simple practical gardening methods: The aim is to deepen knowledge of the species and their use in gardening and design.

The structure of the lecture is based on seasonal aspects and the system of habitats according to HANSEN/STAHL.

Previous knowledge expected

Basic knowledge of perennial plant use is an advantage.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students recognize the most important species and varieties of the current range of perennials and summer flowers. They distinguish between them based on morphological characteristics, growth forms, or special aesthetic characteristics of the plants. There is an opportunity to strengthen individual access to plants and plant knowledge, as well as to express this knowledge creatively. They are aware of the location and care requirements of plant species and, based on common horticultural planting concepts, can identify plant communities that are adapted to the location and have a high aesthetic impact. They have simple practical experience with horticultural cultivation work to support plant planning and design and horticultural implementation work.
