Content

During the excursion, students will have the opportunity to talk to experts and assessors at the Vienna premises of AGES (Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety Ltd.) at Spargelfeldstraße 191 (1220 Vienna) and visit selected laboratories.
The programme of the excursion focuses on food safety and food quality and is structured as follows: Introduction to AGES / Job description of a food expert / Molecular biology GMO laboratory / Microscopy of food / Veterinary drugs and hormones / Food additives.

Previous knowledge expected

The lecture food microbiology as well as the exercises in food microbiology are important requirements to understand the discussed context. Discussion activity of each student is mandatory.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After this course the students have a better understanding about the work of a routine laboratory as wells as of the work flow in a food safety authority. The discussion with AGES experts allows a better integration of the food safety facts learned at the university.
