Together with the “Bioprocess Engineering Exercises,” these exercises are part of the “Applied Microbiology” module for the LBT bachelor's program (H217).

In the “Applied Microbiology Exercises,” water samples, air, and surfaces are monitored using practical methods. Before the practical part, students write a work specification according to which all experiments are carried out. In addition, the role of drinking water in Austria and other countries around the world is examined in more detail and presented in small groups. On the last day of the exercises, a final discussion takes place to review all the results in detail. The exercises are concluded with the submission of a final report.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After completing the exercises, students will be able to draw up work instructions that others can use to carry out experiments correctly.
Students will master practical methods for monitoring drinking water in accordance with the Austrian Drinking Water Ordinance, as well as methods for environmental monitoring.
They will be able to write a final report and explain and discuss the role and importance of drinking water in Austria and other countries around the world.
