Content

This course provides students with a deeper understanding of the construction and vegetation technology of green roofs and vertical greening. The necessary construction techniques, materials, construction processes and solution variants are taught theoretically, developed interactively and critically using implementation examples and are reflected upon during excursions.
Finally, students apply their newly acquired knowledge of green roofs and vertical greening to an analysis of a Viennese urban district implementation and derive generally applicable planning, construction and operating principles for the use of sustainable green roofs and vertical greening for their own future planning and implementation.
This course addresses SDGs 11, 13, 14, and 15.

Previous knowledge expected

Basics in construction and vegetation technology for planning, building and operating green roofs and vertical greenery
Knowledge of materials, construction techniques and construction processes in landscape construction
Plant knowledge
Skills in creating and reading detailed technical plans and representations
Knowledge of scientific working

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students acquire in-depth knowledge of construction and vegetation technology for the planning, construction and operation of green roofs and vertical greening in the areas of construction technology, materials and construction processes. They are able to critically analyze green roofs and vertical greening in terms of construction and vegetation technology and select and apply them for real, sustainable implementations based on local conditions. They are able to identify and apply generally applicable planning, construction and operating principles.
