In the course Landscape Planning II, 5 different topics within the broader field of landscape planning are studied in depth, discussed, and individually reflected on by students through essays and seminar papers.
Dates and topics:
•October 31: Landscape Governance and Landscape Approaches
•November 7: Superblock – urban design models
•November 14: Planning in the Polycrisis
•November 21: Climate, City, and Intersectionality
•November 28: Decolonizing Landscapes and Decolonizing Planning
The articles or article information (DOI) will be provided at the beginning of October. Based on the last student evaluations that the previously chosen topics are already widely known and the content is repetitive, 2 new topic blocks have been added.
Format: Each topic block starts with a short introductory lecture. Students must read several journal articles in preparation and be ready to use them in the session and for group work. In the sessions, the articles are discussed and worked on further in different group formats (group work). On an individual level, seminar papers and essays must be written.
Workload (2 ECTS = 50 hours):
•20 hours: on-site sessions / seminar meetings at BOKU
•30 hours: preparation/reading articles and work on seminar paper
Attendance is mandatory, and the course has continuous assessment. One session may be missed. If you do not complete the course, the whole course must be repeated. Completing single parts (e.g. single units or submitting the seminar paper) in later semesters is not possible.
Grading (max. 100 points):
• up to 10 points per seminar session (max. 50 total)
• up to 50 points for the seminar paper
Use of AI to write seminar papers is not allowed. All seminar papers will be checked for plagiarism and AI use.
If you miss the first session, your spot will immediately be given to students from the waiting list who attend the first session. If you are on the waiting list, we recommend coming to the first session. We understand the frustration from last year: we could not give away spots last semester because this rule had not been announced.
