Content

The course introduces the fundamentals of international and national climate protection law and provides knowledge about the principles, instruments, and actors anchored therein. To this end, the European and international legal framework of climate protection law is first discussed, followed by an overview of key areas of law.

In-depth coverage of: International climate protection law: UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Kyoto Protocol, Paris Agreement
EU climate protection law: Emissions trading system, Effort Sharing Regulation, Fit for 55 program
Focus on LULCF: Climate protection and forestry, natural sinks, implementation in Austria
National climate protection law: Climate Protection Act, EZG, National Emissions Trading Act 2022

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

- Understand the fundamentals, instruments, and principles of international, European, and Austrian climate protection law.
- Independently solve simple case scenarios.
- Analyze the legal framework of climate policy discussion processes based on current European and Austrian legal developments.
