Content

This course teaches practice-oriented research methods with a focus on empirical analyses in transport science. Students learn to
- identify suitable data collection methods for transport science issues,
- plan, conduct and document data collection, taking ethical principles into account,
- apply quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis,
- efficiently research and analyse scientific data sources
- document results in a structured and comprehensible manner,
- use AI tools sensibly and reflect on them critically,
- visualise a methodical research process in a flowchart.
A particular focus is on practical implementation through exercises with journal papers and the creation of an individual research design for your own project.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After completing the course, students will be able to
- develop an empirical research strategy taking ethical principles into account,
- select suitable data collection methods for transport studies,
- prepare, analyse and interpret quantitative data using SPSS,
- efficiently research, systematically analyse and correctly document scientific literature with the aid of suitable tools (including AI),
- visualise their own research design in a structured flowchart.
