Content

• Introduction: significance, objectives, pests and diseases, weeds, causes of damage, sustainability
• Fundamentals of pests, diseases and weed including assessment: Biotic and abiotic damage, damage patterns, damage thresholds, economic thresholds, diagnostic methods
• Fundamentals of pest groups (insects, mites, nematodes, fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, viruses, weeds): Biology and life cycles
• Integrated pest management as a management system: prevention, monitoring, forecasting, control strategies, resistance management
• Legal foundations: EU legal framework, national implementation, responsibilities, sustainable use
• Active ingredient approval and registration of plant protection products
• Application, requirements, and controls: application techniques, labeling, application regulations, documentation, operator protection, environmental and consumer protection, monitoring, statistical data
• Management of harmful organisms: preventive measures, mechanical, biological, biotechnological, and chemical measures
• Future issues
• Sustainable plant protection

• can place plant protection in its proper technical context and explain key terms,
• can assess damage and classify pests into basic categories,
• understand integrated pest management strategies as a decision-making and management system,
• are familiar with the key legal foundations and can distinguish between EU and national jurisdictions,
• can explain the European approval system and distinguish between active ingredient and product approval,
• are familiar with the requirements for legally compliant application and the importance of monitoring,
• are familiar with the most important groups of pathogens and the fundamentals of disease development,
• understand the basic biology of major pests, pathogens, and weeds,
• can derive management approaches,
• can identify key damage factors and practical control strategies,
• can derive integrated plant protection measures in practical cases
• understand the effects, application, and limitations of plant protection products
• can evaluate current developments
• are competent to recieve a "Ausbildungsbescheinigung"
