Content

This course covers the fundamentals and practical approaches to science communication, sustainability, and citizen science in the context of large-scale public events. The focus is on developing and reflecting on educational formats for different target groups, particularly children and families, as well as addressing sustainability issues at large-scale events. Students work on designing participatory formats, digital scavenger hunts, and accessible communication initiatives; conduct interviews and surveys; and explore collaboration with stakeholders in the context of large-scale events. At the end of the course, students develop or reflect on their own format or concept in the field of science communication and sustainability. Application and mandatory attendance at the Donauinselfest (3 days + 1/2 day setup and 1/2 day takedown).
-Fundamentals of science communication, sustainability, and citizen science
-Analysis of sustainability aspects at large-scale events
-Development of outreach formats for different target groups, particularly children and families
-Design of digital scavenger hunts and other interactive engagement formats
-Collaboration with stakeholders in the context of large, publicly accessible events
-Conducting and evaluating interviews, surveys, and observations
-Development and reflection on students’ own concepts at the intersection of sustainability, research, and the public
