Content

The course “Agroecosystem Services Analysis and Digitalization” explores how agricultural management affects ecosystem services and environmental impacts. It examines both benefits, such as food production and carbon sequestration, and challenges, including biodiversity loss and greenhouse gas emissions. Using measurements from field experiments, statistical analysis, meta-analysis and digital tools, students learn to assess and support sustainable agricultural practices. Selected new digitalization methods and technologies in agriculture to assess ecosystem (dis)services and biodiversity will be presented.

Previous knowledge expected

Basic background in agronomy, crop production, soil science, and agroecology. Previous experience with data handling, simple data analysis, and data visualisation, for example in R, Excel, or similar tools, is helpful but not mandatory.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

•Students can assess several ecosystem (dis)services by collecting relevant data, selecting the appropriate method and summarizing the results.
•Students learn to decide which ecosystem service can best be quantified with which method.
•Participants will learn how to carry out basic data analysis and visualisation.
