Campain 2027: Between Facts and Power

Attacks on democratic institutions – including universities – are increasing worldwide. Research on sustainability issues is particularly under attack. We want to raise awareness among students and staff of the importance of democracy for sustainability sciences and thus increase BOKU's attention and resilience to possible attacks.

The campaign is an initiative of the Sustainability Research Working Group at BOKU.

Weil...

Because

… science needs democracy.

… democracy needs science.

… democracy must be constantly worked for.

… Austria is not immune to authoritarian tendencies.

We should all have an idea about

  • what anti-democratic attacks on science can look like.
  • what options for action we have.

Call for Contributions

During the campaign period (see below), as many and as diverse as possible events on the topic of "Democracy and Sustainability Science" should take place at BOKU. All people / groups at BOKU are called upon to contribute their ideas and participate in the campaign. The aim is to create a programme on the topic that is as colourful and diverse as possible.

Campaign periods:

Spring 2027: 1 March to 30 April 2027, excluding Easter holidays (22 March to 4 April)

Autumn 2025: 15 October to 15 December 2027

The Sustainability Research Working Group coordinates and supports the preparation and application. Please clarify details directly with us.

What kind of contributions do we look for?

There are no limits to the ideas, as long as they are in line with a university ethos. In particular, we also invite you to register events within the framework of existing series as contributions to the campaign year. This increases the visibility of the events and the breadth of activities in the campaign year.
