BOKU has set itself ambitious strategic sustainability goals, including in the area of research.

Based on this, the Working Group (WG) Sustainability Research was founded in November 2020. With its work it supports the efforts of BOKU to proactively promote sustainability-relevant research and strengthens the discourse at the university.

 

Slow Science - a fast lane to addressing urgent crises?

Fast science has a negative impact on science and scientists. Can slow science help us make faster progress and help address urgent crises? The keynote speech examines the current situation of accelerated science (“More Speed, More Haste, More Stress, More Waste”), shows possible ways of decelerating universities and science and explores their potential for solving the great challenges of society. After the keynote speech, we will discuss the topic together.

Diskussions event - Measuring knowledge?

The exact measurement of knowledge is basically impossible. It is (re-)produced and develops unpredictably and dynamically. Nevertheless, there has been a long tradition of making knowledge measurable to understand how knowledge stocks develop over time and what impact it has. Over time, it has become clear that indicators suggest a certain evaluation of knowledge, hardly do justice to the diversity of research and often have unintended control effects. What does a sensible use of indicators look like? What goal should be achieved?
Members
The majority of the departments as well as the scientific centers or initiatives and the research service of the BOKU are represented in the working group. Christian Obinger, Vice-Rector for Research & Innovation, regularly takes part in the meetings of the working group on behalf of the Rectorate.
