Electrochemical Biosensors
Erik Reimhult led the writing of a prizewinning review, published in SCI-Journal "Sensors".

Quantification of biological or biochemical processes is of utmost importance for medical, biological and biotechnological applications. However, converting biological information to an easily processed electronic signal is challenging due to the complexity of connecting an electronic device directly to a biological environment. Electrochemical biosensors provide an attractive means to analyze the content of a biological sample due to the direct conversion of a biological event to an electronic signal. Prof. Erik Reimhult led the writing of a review on this topic as co-advisor for two PhD students starting their work in the group of Prof. Janos Vörös at the ETH Zürich. The two students doing their PhDs on the fabrication of nanowires and nanovesicle architectures for enzymatic sensing respectively performed this project to get introduced to the field of nanoscale biosensing, which was then the main focus of Prof. Reimhult’s research. The outcome of the writing project was a highly cited review article in the open source SCI journal ‘Sensors’, which has now also been awarded with the price for best review article of the past 3 years by the Editorial board of the journal.
