Plant Biomechanics and Biomimetics (891.002)

This lecture provides an overview on plant biomechanics pointing out biomimetic aspects. The understanding of structure-function relationships in plants forms the basis for transferring biological concepts for optimization and adaption into technical applications in the sense of biomimetics. Overview of topics:

  • Biomechanics of plants
  • Structure and function
  • Adaptive growth
  • Movement of plants
  • Plants as concept generators for materials

A basic knowledge in botany and mechanics is helpful but not required. Please see (Course 891.002) for more information
