This lecture provides an overview on plant biomechanics pointing out biomimetic aspects. The understanding of structure-function relationships in plants forms the basis for transferring biological concepts for optimization and adaption into technical applications in the sense of biomimetics.
Overview of topics:
- Biomechanics of plants
- Structure and function
- Adaptive growth
- Movement of plants
- Plants as concept generators for materials
A basic knowledge in botany and mechanics is helpful but not required.
