World Wood Day
March 21st is officially designated and recognized as the International Day of Forests by the United Nations General Assembly. 2013 is the first year of recognition. The World Wood Day (www.worldwoodday.org) is celebrated on the same day as the International Day of Forests to raise the awareness on how wood plays a key role for a sustainable future. The International Wood Culture Society (www.iwcs.com) is organizing a symposium in Tanzania. To present the cultural aspects of wood utilization and their role for a sustainable development, the symposium is connected to a handicraft- and child’s painting competition. Michael Grabner from the Institute of Wood Technology and Renewable Resources was asked to present the work of historical wood utilization and the Austrian- and International network of historical wood utilization (www.holzverwendung.at).
