Women-Power from Nepal for Food Security


Form May 12th to Mai 24th within the ÖAW-KEF project ”Food Security in Kathmandu Valley/ Nepal – Validation and Quality Control of Methods for pesticide Analysis” an analytical workshop with exclusively female participants from Nepal together with scientists from the BOKU-Departments of Forest and Soil Sciences and of Chemistry and the Food Testing and Research Institute Vienna at BOKU was organized. 

It is a training programme in techniques in pesticide residue analyses and analytical quality assurance. The project supports local institutions as ENPHO (NGO for Environment and Public Health) and TU (Tribuvan University, department of Community Medicine and Family Health) to improve urban living conditions. The educational programmes of ENPHO and TU especially address the female population of Kathmandu who are mainly responsible for purchasing foodstuff and manage home gardens. The project should help to fulfil the Millenium Development Goal 1 (Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger), Millenium Development Goal 3 (promote Gender Equality and Empower Women and Millenium  Development Goal 7 (Ensure Environmental Stability).
