Most biological processes are conducted and regulated by proteins. Therefore, the ability to engineer proteins for improved functionality or to gain a novel function offers numerous possibilities. In our laboratory, we use yeast display to engineer a given protein of interest, in particular for applications in CAR T cells. This includes engineering of binding domains and drug-responsive protein switches, stabilization of poorly structured proteins, among many other examples.
