THE WATER SENSITIVE CITY: WATER SQUARES, TIDAL PARKS AND CLIMATE ADAPTIVE STRATEGIES
IG-Architektur
Gumpendorfer Straße 63B

De Urbanisten is founded by Florian Boer (1969) and Dirk van Peijpe (1962). They are an innovative office for urban design and landscape architecture from Rotterdam, The Netherlands. De Urbanisten consists of an international team of architects, urban designers and landscape architects.
Florian Boer will show designs for Water Squares, Tidal parks, Water Sensitive streets, Climate adaptive strategies for transforming some entire cities and probably the most recent study on ‘bike city’ proposing answers to the question: How can we can deal and adapt to climate change by creating cities that see this crisis as an opportunity to reshape their urban spaces into more green, pedestrian friendly evironments.
By creating more livable, softer environments, we create a healthier city that can also cope with climate challenges like floods, drought, heat stress, etc. The challenges that our cities (and societies) face in coming decades might also be the greatest opportunity to create sustainable and resilient cities.
De Urbanisten are currently working on a number of Dutch and Belgian cities on this topic. Their assignments range from comprehensive strategies for entire cities (like Antwerp, Ghent, Dordrecht, Rotterdam) to studies on neighborhood transformation in Leiden, The Hague, Nijmegen, Rotterdam and Amsterdam, to concrete projects that are (almost) under construction or have been realized in Rotterdam, Ghent, Tiel, Delft and Antwerp. A lot of attention is payed on creating an interactive proces of transformation with professional stakeholders and citizens involved.
