ACCORD - Aligning risks and coping appraisals to kick off local climate action

The ACCORD project addresses the following research questions:

  • How do local actors in climate active and inactive communities differ in their risk and coping appraisal?
  • How can a shared understanding of climate risks and coping potentials increase the acceptance and effectiveness of climate policy instruments and local climate action?

In doing so, ACCORD contributes on the one hand to existing research gaps related to the inaction of actors at the local level and the question of why some stakeholders take action and adopt climate change measures while others do not. On the other hand, ACCORD aims to increase the effectiveness of climate policy instruments. The novelty of ACCORD is based on the fusion of Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) with the climate governance approach, in particular the concept of "governance capacity".
