Kick-off-meeting 27.-28.2.2017 in Hungary

The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) with its Institute of Landscape Development, Recreation and Conservation Planning is partner in a € 2.3 million research project together with 13 other partners from the Danube Region. The INSiGHTS project successfully started with a kick-off meeting and a public launching event on February 27 and 28,, 2017 in Tata, Hungary. The main objective of this project, co-funded by the European Union (ERFD, IPA), is to develop coordinated policies and actions to preserve and manage the diversity of natural and cultural assets in the Danube Region as a basis for sustainable development and growth strategies. Internal thematic meeting 10.5.2017 in Vienna

The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) was the host of the second project meeting on sustainable tourism strategies. The participants discussed the applicability of the Self-Assessment Manual in practice and their respective results. The project partners underlined the usefulness of the tool developed by the BOKU Institute of Landscape Development, Recreation and Conservation Planning and discussed next steps such as the planning of so-called “Walkshops” with joint excursions, the implementation of “Critical Classrooms” and special “Master classes”. Internal thematic meeting and study visit 28.-30.6.2017 in Serbia

The Regional Economic Development Agency for Šumadija and Pomoravlje from Kragujevac hosted the first multilateral “Walkshop” and third internal thematic meeting in Aranđelovac, Serbia. Study visits enabled the projectpartners to gain impressions of the region and its local specialities and best practice examples of local tourism facilities. The “Master class” not just joined by numerous local stakeholders, but also by representatives of national institutions. Prof. Ulrike Pröbstl-Haider from BOKU University, Vienna, presented product development in tourism and pointed out the importance of unique and authentic experiences for guests of a certain destination. In the “Critical Classroom” partners analysed strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities of Plovdiv area and the region of Šumadija and Pomoravlje. The Bulgarian region of Plovdiv had hosted the first bilateral meeting in the mid of June. Press release

Internal thematic meeting and study visit 17.-20.10.2017 in Croatia

LAG Central Istria hosted the second multilateral walkshop and fourth internal thematic meeting in Motovun in Central Istria. Study visits to various tourist attractions in the surroundings provided insights into the diversity of offers in Central Istria. They provided the basis for the SWOT workshop, problem analysis and the identification of alternative solutions in the concluding critical classroom. Daniela Beck from BOKU University, Vienna, presented the results of the status quo synthesis and the EU-level policy inventory during the internal thematic meeting. Press release

Internal thematic meeting and study visit 6.-9.3.2018 in Hungary

Zala County Government hosted the internal thematic meeting, multilateral walkshop and SCOM meeting in Lenti in Hungary. Prof. Ulrike Pröbstl-Haider from BOKU University hold a Master Class on stakeholder involvement for tourism and product development. She was also facilitator of the Critical Classroom. In the course of the study visits, project partners experienced various local attractions with potential for slow, green and healthy tourism development. At the 1st year review of the INSiGHTS project the status of the project implementation and progress of the work packages were discussed in the presence of Mr. Gusztáv Csomor, the project officer from the Joint Secretariat of the Danube Transnational Programme. Internal thematic meeting and study visit 18.-21.6.2018 in Romania

Harghita County Council hosted the SCOM meeting, internal thematic meeting and multilateral walkshop in Odorheiu Secuiesc/Székelyudvarhely in Romania. Michael Meyer from CEEweb was moderator of the Master Class on tourism destination management schemes and product development. During the steering committee meeting and the thematic meeting in the Septimia Resort project management issues and communication activities were discussed along with the methodological guide for national tourism policy assessment. Study visits to the best practice examples of the Harghita region enabled project partners to gain insights in the various local attractions with potential for slow, green and healthy tourism development. The walkshop closed with the critical classroom in which integrated management schemes were discussed. Press release
