In December 2022, the consortium partners including Institute for Transport Studies at Universität für Bodenkultur Wien, webLyzard technology, MODUL Technology, Data Intelligence Offensive e.V., ummadum Service GmbH, Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik started a three-year project called AI-CENTIVE intending to develop AI-based incentivisation techniques to encourage sustainable mobility choices among Austrian citizens and consequently contribute to the reduction in transport-related carbon emissions.
In particular, different mobility datasets provided by project partners will be merged to produce a unified data ecosystem that will be used to train artificial intelligence (AI) models. These models will then serve to better explain individuals’ decision-making process in the context of mobility choices and to subsequently predict future choices accounting for a wide variety of factors such as weather, location and type of event (e.g. sports event, concert) as well as the accessibility and availability of alternative transport modes. The AI-based predictions will be used to promote more sustainable mobility behaviour by designing more efficient and optimised incentive schemes. The incentivisation program will be deployed through an existing Ummadum mobile app that will allow for measuring its effectiveness.
The ultimate goal of the project is to increase public awareness of the sustainable transport solution and encourage a positive attitude towards them as well as to enable stakeholders to make informed decisions in supporting more sustainable behaviour of Austrian citizens in the future.
