Vivek Anand Asokan is a policy researcher in the Sustainable Consumption and Production Unit at the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies in Hayama, Japan.
He has been awarded the Japan Foundation Indo-Pacific Partnership Program Research Fellowship Grant for 2024. As part of the fellowship, he will examine the material consumption and end-of-life processes of clean technologies, such as electric vehicles (EVs) and solar panels (PVs), in India and the ASEAN-5 countries. While in Vienna, he will also analyse the circular economic policies and Indo-Pacific strategies of European countries, and how these align with Japan’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy.
His interdisciplinary research interests include the human use of materials and energy, and the human dimensions of environmental change and sustainable development policies in developing Asian countries. During his time at BOKU in Vienna, Vivek hopes to develop his quantitative and computational skills and establish long-term collaborations. He also aims to contribute a southern perspective to social metabolism research.
