Climate Change

Ongoing climate change is one of the most pressing problems of our time and rapid, joint efforts are required to successfully counteract it. Since the gW/N was founded in 2010 by Professor Helga Kromp-Kolb, one of the country's leading climate experts, the issue of climate protection has always been an important part of our efforts. To this day, we feel committed to climate protection, and the associated protection of vulnerable ecosystems and the foundations of human existence.

We develop our impact within the BOKU and beyond by pursuing the following goals:

  • Support, networking and services for BOKU researchers and teachers in the areas of causes and consequences of climate change, ecological economics, climate policy and climate communication
  • Active communication on topics of climate change and sustainability with schools and the general public
  • Exchange of experiences between climate research and the media
  • Strengthening the Austrian climate research community (lobbying) and coordinating (participating in) EU-wide climate research funding (JPI)
  • Act as a contact/service provider for questions relevant to climate change for politics, administration, companies and the media
  • Advice and decision support in the field of climate protection with other universities and companies

The embedding of these goals in our different target groups is shown in the following graphic:
