Lehrinhalt

The course has three aims: i) review basics in applied linear and non-linear mathematical programming (e.g. objective function, variables, constraints, reduced costs, shadow price, model types, model error detection i.e. infeasibility, unboundedness, non-optimality); ii) learn to use the software package GAMS (General Algebraic Modeling System; https://www.gams.com/) in building mathematical programming models in bioeconomic research contexts; and iii) learn to build techno-economic models to conduct economic and environmental impact assessments of biorefinery concepts (e.g. input and output data management, model building and comparative scenario analysis, assessment criteria, sensitivity & uncertainty analysis).

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

mathematical programming, regression analysis, and scientific writing

Lehrziel

Students are familiar with common biorefinery concepts and able to i) use the software package GAMS in order to build different types of mathematical programming models, ii) collect and manage data relevant in biorefinery assessments, iii) build techno-economic models to conduct impact assessments, iv) perform sensitivity and uncertainty analysis, and v) write scientific reports of the model analysis;
