The course addresses senior postdocs aiming for a professorship from BOKU and TU Vienna. It consists of a basic workshop followed by a one-hour peer coaching session in groups of two participants plus trainer to check the individual application documents.

These seminars takes place in cooperation with the Vienna University of Technology. For organisational reasons, therefore, there is a reciprocal exchange of lists of participants, including e-mail addresses, between BOKU and TU Wien. By registering, you agree to this procedure.

Objectives:

Convincing application documents play a key role for the application for a professorship. This workshop shows how your academic profile may best be presented in the written application for an assistant or full professorship in the German speaking countries. It introduces the appointment procedure (procedural steps, requirements for a professorship) and provides practical knowledge for preparing a written application (overview of the application documents, best practice cover letter, curriculum vitae, research and teaching statement).

Note: This workshop targets postdocs intending to apply in Austria, Germany or Switzerland.

How do application procedures for professorships work in the German speaking countries?
What should an academic portfolio look like?
What does an appointment committee expect from your written application?
Your CV as central document of the written application
Classical contents and structure of a cover letter
Presenting your profile in a research or teaching statementa

Methods:

Input by the trainer, discussion in the group, individual exercises, peer feedback

Group size: max. 12 participants

The workshop will take place online via ZOOM.

Mirjam Müller M.A.
works as coach, trainer and author on academic careers. As staff developer for postdocs with the Academic Staff Development unit at the University of Konstanz, she is responsible for support measures for academic careers and advises the rectorate on strategies for the advancement of early career researchers. She is author of several career guides for postdocs at Campus Verlag, editor of the specialist journal “Personal in Hochschule und Wissenschaft entwickeln”, member of “Coachingnetz Wissenschaft e.V.” and works as trainer in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
