Kumela has a B.Sc. background in Agricultural Sciences from Alemaya University. He started his teaching career in an agricultural college. Then, he broadened his expertise and followed a M.A in Development Studies. In 2009, he joined the University of Gondar as an academic staff. There, he has carried out administrative responsibilities as a head of department and coordinator of the postgraduate program. Kumela is currently working on his doctoral thesis on household livelihood security and effects of policy interventions towards enhancement of food security in Ethiopia. Maria Wurzinger is his supervisor; Michael Hauser and Marianne Penker are advisory team members. He has earned a grant from OEAD for his doctoral study. E-mail
