Yadong Wang - Ringo Yu award for the 2nd Runner up
During the Class A Prediction Symposium on “Debris flow impact forces on single and dual barriers” at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, MSc. Yadong Wang and the team from the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering won the Ringo Yu award for the 2nd Runner up.
An Introduction to SPH
by Dr. Chong Peng
Finite Element Method suffers from mesh deformation for problems with large deformation. Poor accuracy and loss of convergencc are the consequences. Smoothed particle hydrodynamics is a meshless method and has gained popularity in the simulation of problems with large deformation. Dr. Peng offers an online introduction to SPH in three parts, from the fundamentals to advanced topics around this fascinating numerical tool.
3rd rank in "Engineering Geological"
The journal impact factors for the year 2019 have just been released by Thomson Reuters. Acta Geotechnica, with an Impact Factor of 4.35, reached the 3rd rank among the 39 journals in the world in the category "Engineering Geological".
New colleagues at IGT
Three new colleagues will soon join our team: Our new laboratorian Dávid Tőzsér, Dr. Enrico Soranzo, who obtained his PhD at IGT in 2014 and Dr. Chengwei Zhu from Zhejiang University.
IGT in the press
Recent breakthroughs in the calculation of landslides and debris flows have attracted attention in the media.
