About the instrument

The FORMULATOR screen builder is a liquid handling system specifically designed to generate formulation combinations in 96 well plates for protein crystallization experiments. It uses microfluidic technology to dispense various volumes of ingredients with different viscosities.

How does it work?

The FORMULATOR 10 has 9 inputs for either 250 ml Nalgene bottles or 50 ml Falcon tubes as well as 1 bulk wash input for pure water, which can also be used as an ingredient. The stock solutions can be added fast and easy by just scanning the ingredient barcode on the bottle and placing it in any of the ingredient inputs on the top of the instrument. The microfluidic chip has 96 outputs and each has its own microfluidic valve cluster. Each valve cluster has two micro-diaphragms (200 nl and 2.5 µl) and three valves to control the flow of the liquid. The ROCK MAKER software helps in creating an experiment and designing a dispense list with a unique barcode that can be attached to your plate.
