DirectSens develops enzymes and biosensors for fast and accurate measurements of various analytes in the food industry and for medical applications. The combination of enzyme engineering with the latest sensor technology has led, for example, to a rapid test for (residual) lactose, which is used in the dairy industry worldwide. In 2024, DirectSens announced the acquisition of its LactoSens® technology by the Kerry Group, a global leader in flavour and nutrition.
Founded in 2019, BOKU spin-off Novasign promotes excellence and innovation in biopharmaceuticals and related industries by complementing biotechnological manufacturing processes with innovative digital technologies. The solutions developed aim to reduce the time, financial and resource-related costs incurred by our customers. The spin-off has also won several awards, including the 2024 State Prize for Innovation.
AgroBiogel GmbH is a BOKU spin-off company founded in February 2021 that produces the first 100% wood-based hydrogel. This hydrogel increases the water storage capacity of the soil, enables efficient nutrient supply to plants and increases soil fertility. The company has won several awards, including the prestigious Phoenix Founder Award 2022. In 2024, it also launched an important and promising cooperation with the company AustroCel.
