- Basic conditions and determining factors of the marketplace and the

product life cycle

- Performance meassurement and key success factors for the viability of an

organization

- The strategic navigation system, including the experience curve and the

principles of substitutions

- The Business Mission

- Porters Five Forces Theory

- Bosten Consulting Matrix and Ansoff Matrix

- The strategic development process (according to the phases: analysis,

options, basic strategy, consolidation, implementation)

- Introduction to the Viable System Model (VSM) by Stafford Beer and

principles of management cybernetics

- Management as a profession: BOKU graduates as managers (basic principles,

tasks and tools of management)

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students will get deep understanding in the basic principles of strategic management. Theories of the most well known exponents thereabout (P. Drucker, M. Porter, A. Gaelweiler, H. Ulrich, J. Collins, etc.) will be discussed.

The strategic development process will be presented and debated.

Corporate strategy, corporate structure, corporate culture will be discussed within the field of systems oriented management. The part management plays within these areas will be discussed.

The students get understanding in the basic principles, tasks and tools of management and will be able to differentiate between effectiveness and efficiency.

Teamworking, discussions and presentations will be expected during the course.
