BOKU Sustainability Report 2023
BOKU Sustainability Report 2023 - now online!
For the fifth time in a row, BOKU is publishing a sustainability report audited according to GRI standards - this year for the first time in the new BOKU design and with a focus on accessibility!
The report provides a good overview of the diverse sustainability activities at BOKU along the six areas of (1) teaching and studies, (2) research, (3) exchange with society, (4) operations & campus management, (5) organisational culture and (6) governance. It shows successes and progress, but also potential for improvement.
Sneak peak into chapter (4) Operations and Campus Management: The preliminary results of the greenhouse gas balance for 2023 show that emissions from business trips in 2023 fell by almost 50 % compared to the pre-Covid year 2019, although everything was back to normal operations in 2023. The most important elements so far are the revised business travel policy and the increased use of online meetings and collaborative tools. BOKU University has also already achieved reductions in other emission categories. This is encouraging, but some structural changes and a decisive rethink are still required to achieve the target of a 90% reduction in BOKU's total emissions by 2040. More on this in the report from p. 115.
