Successful research careers are often characterised by international and also cross-sectoral mobility.

To facilitate the permeability of scientific careers, the following career profiles have been defined at European level:

R1 First Stage Researcher - Researchers up to the time of the doctorate

R2 Recognised Researcher - PhD researchers who are not yet fully independent

R3 Established Researcher - Researchers who have developed a degree of independence

R4 Leading Researcher - Researchers who lead their field of research

BOKU's scientific career model is in line with the European Framework for Research Careers. All career stages are assigned to the qualification profile for researchers defined throughout Europe.

The specific structure of the individual career stages in Austria is based on the collective agreement for university employees and the Universities Act.

In addition, internal guidelines such as the rules of procedure for appointment procedures or the rules of procedure for career positions apply.
