Meet the Members of the FORSEE Team at the Institute of Forest Ecology

Project Co-Lead Georg Gratzer

Georg Gratzer is professor for mountain forest ecology. His research spans a broad spectrum, from the dynamics of temperate old growth mountain forests to sustainable land use in Asian and East African mountain areas. He is the SDG15 coordinator of UniNetz. In FORSEE, his focus is on seed dispersal, the effects of temporal fluctuations in seed production on the dynamics of forests and the establishment processes of tree regeneration. He has set up long-term observation areas for seed production and maintains them on an ongoing basis.

Project Co-Lead Mario Pesendorfer

Mario Pesendorfer is a terrestrial ecologist broadly interested in the interface between ecology, plant and animal behavior, and their application to conservation strategies. His work often focuses on the role of individual-level behavior or life-history strategies in shaping group-, population-, or community-wide processes. He uses field observations and experiments, as well as quantitative approaches such as remote sensing and agent-based modeling, to address questions about life history strategies of plants and animals. His interests extend from understanding natural history variation in the light of phylogeny to testing theory and developing conservation strategies.
