Johanes L. Frieß, Carina R. Lalyer and Bernd Giese published an article in the Ecological Modelling

Johannes L. Frieß, Carina R. Lalyer, Bernd Giese and colleagues from the German Federal Agency of nature conservation published an article in the Ecological Modelling named "Review of gene drive modelling and implications for risk assessment of gene drive organisms". The authors analysed 117 publications with models on super-Mendelian inheritance and concluded that these models to date focus more on the efficacy of the gene drive than on ecological realism. They further found that the majority of models do not incorporate a specific target organism's life history and that multiple potentially decisive ecological factors are rarely included. In a comparison to existing guidelines, the authors conclude that to support environmental risk assessment more ecological realism would be needed.
