On the scientific side, three research organizations comprising a total of five institutes are participating in REGO, each contributing their respective expertise to this interdisciplinary collaboration:

The Institute for Development Research (IDR) and the Institute for Landscape Development, Recreation, and Nature Conservation Planning (ILEN) at BOKU University in Vienna are contributing expertise in the areas of sustainable economic development, nature conservation planning, governance, and transdisciplinarity to the project. The Institute of Landscape Planning (ILAP) is assisting with the development and application of the analytical framework.

The Legal Studies Research Group at the Institute for Spatial Planning, part of the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning at the Vienna University of Technology, studies the legal framework governing biosphere reserves.

TdLAB at ETH Zurich develops frameworks for collaboration between science and practice in biosphere reserves.

REGO is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research project. As a result, researchers work closely with practitioners. This applies in particular to the administrative offices of the Biosphere Reserve Großes Walsertal (AUT) and Engiadina Val Müstair (CH). Both were involved in the development of the research project. They continue to perform key tasks within the project and help shape its direction. In addition, they are implementing newly developed governance models. Our partners are:

In addition to Großes Walsertal and Engiadina Val Müstair, the administrative offices of the other Austrian biosphere reserves, the Austrian UNESCO MAB Youth Representative, and other partners are also involved in the project as part of a transdisciplinary steering group.
