Summer Graduate Workshop & Bliss Symposium Award

The Garden and Landscape Studies program at Dumbarton Oaks is pleased to announce two opportunities for students.

The Garden and Landscape Studies Graduate Workshop - for PhD candidates and MLA candidates. This program is intended to develop the field of garden and landscape studies to promote the depth and breadth of future landscape and garden history scholarship. Dumbarton Oaks, with the support of the Mellon Initiative in Urban Landscape Studies and in collaboration with the Arnold Arboretum, will offer an intensive three-week Garden and Landscape Studies Graduate Workshop from 1705-060620. This year the focus will be on the urban public realm and the design and construction of public landscapes.

The Bliss Symposium Award - for currently enrolled graduate students and undergraduate juniors and seniors wishing to attend the annual spring symposium at Dumbarton Oaks, "Spatial Inequalities and Segregation in the Urban American Landscape" scheduled for 08-090520. The award offers reimbursement up to $600 for students traveling domestically, and up to $1,200 for students traveling from abroad, and may be used for travel to Washington D.C., local accommodation, and/or other approved expenses related to symposium attendance. Symposium registration fees are waived for award recipients.
