Am 17. Juni wird jedes Jahr der Welttag zur Bekämpfung der Wüstenbildung und Dürre zelebriert.
Ein Drittel der Erdoberfläche ist von Wüstenbildung bedroht. Der Klimawandel verschärft das Dürreproblem für die Landwirtschaft und es kommt zu einer Verschlechterung der Nahrungsmittelsituation. Die Folgen der Erderwärmung sind auch in Österreich zu spüren: 2015 wurden 17 Wüstentage (Tage mit Temperaturen über 35°C) verzeichnet.
Das Centre for Development Research, angesiedelt an der BOKU und das Institut für Internationale Entwicklung der Universität Wien veranstalten gemeinsam eine wissenschaftliche Tagung, um die Öffentlichkeit für die bedrohliche Ausbreitung der Wüsten zu sensibilisieren, und um Gegenmaßnahmen zu diskutieren. Es erwarten Sie spannende Podiumsdiskussionen zu ökologischen und sozialen Konsequenzen der zunehmenden Wüstenbildung, sowie die Möglichkeit zum Austausch mit Persönlichkeiten aus Politik, Wissenschaft und Zivilgesellschaft. 17. One day conference „ Agriculture and desertification“ on the occasion of the world day to combat desertification 17.6.2016, BOKU
  
Each year, on June 17th actions are taking place globally to celebrate the world day to combat desertification and drought.
One third of the earth’ surface is affected by desertification. Climate change exacerbates the effects of drought and food production on agricultural land is threatened. The consequences of global warming are being felt in Austria, too: in 2015, 17 “desert days” (days with temperatures above 35°C) were recorded.
The Centre for Development Research at BOKU and the Institute for Development Research at the University of Vienna are organizing a one day conference, to raise awareness about the ongoing loss of agricultural land and to discuss countermeasures to halt and reverse desertification processes. Panel discussions on dryland sustainability, food security and human aspects of the desertification process will be held. The conference provides an opportunity to exchange know-how and best practices for scientists, stakeholders, (non-)governmental organisations and the public.
