Here are some stories of APPEAR Alumni who studied at BOKU University:

  • Sonnia Nzilani Musyoka: Sonnia Nzilani Musyoka from Kenya completed her PhD at BOKU University in 2020. While still a student, she founded the Kibwezi Center for Sustainability. This NGO promotes environmental conservation, gender equality, access to education and climate change adaptation. In November 2022, she took a big step forward in her career when she was appointed County Minister of Lands, Urban Planning and Development, Environment and Climate Change in Makueni County, Kenya.   • Albert Soudré: After completing his PhD at BOKU University in 2011, Albert Soudré initiated an APPEAR project with his former host university and Burkinabe institutions. The positive outcome has led to funding for a second phase, this time on advancing local capacities for livestock breeding practice and research in Burkina Faso LoCaBreed2.0. The consortium has been strengthened by new partners with diverse and complementary skills. The partners involved are competent, dynamic, enthusiastic, sociable and determined.

  • Fentahun Mengistu Tiruneh: For the past 34 years, the OeAD alumnus has worked as a researcher and leader in agricultural research in Ethiopia. His PhD from BOKU University in 2008 has had a tremendous impact on his career, enabling him to rise to the highest level of leadership in the Ethiopian National Agricultural Research System. His education in Austria allowed him to acquire broader theoretical and practical knowledge and skills that prepared him to engage in research and development activities.

  • Kahsa Tadel Gebre: in her Alumni talk Kahsa Tadel Gebre shared her experiences as a former scholarship holder and current researcher at BOKU University. Kahsa has been collaborating with BOKU since she finished her PhD, she was a visiting researcher at BOKU in 2016, and she has been involved in summer school teaching several times. Kahsa is currently a member of the advisory boards of the APPEAR project LoCaBreed with institutions in Burkina Faso and the European Master in Animal Breeding and Genetics at BOKU
