Unit III: Thermodynamics of protein folding and unfolding; differential scanning calorimetry (DSC): TRAXLMAYR

Unit IV: Protein dynamics and molecular dynamics simulations: OOSTENBRINK

Unit V: Protein engineering I/mutagenesis strategies: RÜKER/PETERBAUER

Unit VI: Protein engineering II/display techniques and screening: RÜKER/PETERBAUER

Unit VII: Protein engineering III/examples from antibody engineering & mechanism based-enzyme design: RÜKER/PETERBAUER

Lehrziel

After completing this course and passing the exam the student should understand the relationship between protein structure and function as well as protein dynamics and stability. Moreover she/he will have an overview about the most important techniques in elucidation of protein structure and quality. The student will know the principles in protein design, engineering and selection as well as the use of the most important databases, elucidation of protein phylogeny as well as the basics in protein modeling and structure prediction.
